Description Length: 45 cm. Plumage: above, back and wings grey, head and V down fore neck to breast black, (white speckling on head in non-breeding dress); prominent white crescents above and below eye; rump and tail white; white trailing edge to spread wing; below white, chest washed pale grey; prominent white collar on hindneck; flight feathers mostly black. Immature like adult but head and neck brownish grey, tail with broad black tip. Bare parts: iris dark brown; eyering red; bill red tipped black, black in immature; feet and legs yellowish, greenish grey in immature. Habitat: inshore and offshore. Endemic to Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, visitor to Somalia and perhaps Kenya. <389><391><393> [details]
