Description Forms schools in shallow coastal waters, estuaries and backwaters (Ref. 9812). Can survive in ponds at 87% salinity (Ref. 9812). Occurs in larger aggregations during spawning, which takes place at sea (Ref. 3468). Feeds on small algae, diatoms, forams, benthic polychaetes, crustaceans, molluscs, organic matter and detritus; fry feed on copepods and floating algae (Ref. 9812). Also caught with stakenets, barrier nets, and pouch nets (Ref. 9812). Sold fresh in markets, the roe is highly appreciated. [details]
