Spelling Original rank and spelling Turris (Genot), and name attributed by Gray to Adanson. The spelling Genota was first used by H. & A. Adams [1853, The Genera of Recent Mollusca, 1: 89] in the form "Genota H. and A. Adams (Genot, Adanson)" (as subgenus of Turris), with Murex mitriformis as one of two included species. The spelling Genota is in prevailing usage and is conserved under ICZN Art. 33.3.1. [details]
