Status Salazar-Vallejo (2011: 3) comments that Aristenia "might predate Piromis or Trophoniella. Similar to the latter two genera, it was described as having foreign materials over the body, or being dirty, and hence the specific name. However, since there is no type material, and there were no details for the neurochaetae, especially for the posterior ones, which herein are employed to distinguish among three similar genera, those names are regarded as indeterminable." [details]
