Nomenclature Kinberg (1865: 562) included these following names in his new genus Eriphyle: E capensis new species, E gigantea (Sav) [this is actually a recombination from Leodice gigantea Lamarck], E. aphroditois (Pallas), E. violacea (Grube). However, these names all still belong in Eunice. Kinberg then created 12 new species in Eunice Cuvier, and left none of the older names in Eunice. It is clearly not possible to do this according to the current Code, and Kinberg's Eriyphyle becomes an unnecessary name, a synonym of Eunice. [details]
