(2017 Introduction) that "the type taxon Mesotrocha sexoculata represents a larval stage (Busch 1851; Leuckart 1855), with several identities proposed: a Chaetopterus species (Muller, 1855), Spiochaetopterus costarum or Phyllochaetopterus socialis (Claparede & Mecznikow, 1869) or Mesochaetopterus sagittarius (Bhaud, 1966).
