Etymology Not stated by the author. Leonnates nierstraszi is clearly named to honour Hugo Frederik Nierstrasz (b. Rotterdam, Netherlands, 30 June 1872 – d. Walenstadt, Switzerland, 6 September 1937), a Dutch zoologist known for his research in the fields of malacology and carcinology. Nierstrasz took part in the Siboga Expedition to the Dutch East Indies in 1899/1900, during which the types of the species were collected. [details]
