Taxonomy As Neanthes caudata (as Spio caudatus) is a misapplied name, the next available name is Nereis acuminata, coincidentally from the same locality. However, Reish et al (2014) chose in their paper to use N. acuminata for their New England samples, N. caudata for Portugal samples, and N. arenaceodentata for samples from southern California, Mexico and Hawaii.
