Identification From Clark & Downey (1992: 270) "The specimens from Cape Cerde and Annobon Islands, Gulf of Guine, identified by Nataf and Cherbonnier (1975) as 'Ophidiaster lymani" are indeed Ophidiasters but cannot be Copidaster lymani; they lack the thick covering membrane invested with flat, scale-like granules also they do not have alternating large and small adambulacral plates on the arms and their pedicellariae have rather short valves in broadly boat-shaped alveoli, unlike the very long, slender valves in narrow, sharply tapered alveoli of lymani. I have examined these specimens and they seem to be Ophidiaster guildingi [details]
