Nomenclature Thelepinae was for over a century the accepted spelling and will be found widely used in the literature up to the late 1980s. Holthe (1976:62 footnote) corrected the name to Thelepodinae, noting the true stem of Thelepus Leuckart, 1849 for formation of a family-level name was 'Thelepod' (See Thelepus for etymology). Note that under the ICZN code of 1999 (art.29.5 Maintenance of current spellings) late corrections of this nature to established names are no longer required. Under the 4th Edition code of 1999 Holthe's emendation became an unjustified emendation, but under Art. 33.2.3.1 it is deemed justified nevertheless because it is now in prevailing usage. [details]
