Homonymy Read (1980) raised this taxon to species rank, but as either Nereis reducta, or as the subspecies N. jacksoni reducta this name is a junior primary homonym to Nereis reducta Southern, 1921, although the latter is currently accepted as Neanthes reducta (Southern, 1921).
