Taxonomy Licher (1999) and San Martín (2003) erroneously considered Syllis cirropunctata as a synonym of Branchiosyllis exilis (Gravier, 1900), based on specimens from the Spanish Mediterranean, due to sharing a similar colour pattern. However these specimens lack falcigers with the head of the shaft with protuberances. They were considered as different species by San Martín et al. (2008).  [details]
