Synonymy Beroe octoptera was placed in the synonymy of Mertensia ovum by Chun (1880) a view also favored by Mills (1997-to present) and Majaneva et al (2021). It's listing in Euplokamis was based on coiling tentillae described by Mertens (1833) but his figures show that the natural state of the tentillae is extended. This fits with assignment to Mertensia rather than Euplokamis [details]
