Taxonomy This species was originally described as Thalestris robusta Brady, 1905. Since the name was a junior primary homonym of Thalestris robusta Claus, 1863 a new replacement name was proposed by Norman & Brady (1909) who placed the species with reservations in the genus Parathalestris as Parathalestris (?) northumbrica Norman & Brady, 1909. Wilson (1924) who was unaware of this course of action independently proposed another nomen novum under the name Thalestris valida Wilson, 1924. Lang (1948: 497, 505) eventually transferred P. northumbrica back to the genus Thalestris as "Thalestris northumbrica (Brady)". Note that this combination had already been listed as a nomen nudum by Brady (1900: 443) which generated additional confusion. For example, Wells (2007) in his monumental checklist cites the species as T. northumbrica Brady, 1900 but the only correct citation is T. northumbrica (Norman & Brady, 1909). It is currently considered a species incertae sedis in the genus Thalestris. [details]
