The specific epithet neglecta is a Latin participle meaning 'neglected', 'disregarded' or 'ignored', and refers presumably to the fact that the new species was overlooked by the authors that worked previously in the same region of its type locality, in spite of being stated to be common in the area: "D'un autre côté, je me figure à peine qu'on ait attendu mon passage sur ce globe pour établir l'existence d'une espèce aussi commune. Aussi ne lui ferai-je qu'un baptême provisoire, sans carillon, tout juste nécessaire pour la commodité de la description qui va suivre, Ophelia neglecta" (Schneider, 1887: 96). [details]
