Description: This species extent from the Red Sea and Madagascar to the tropical coasts of Central America and Mexico and from Japan and China to New Caledonia and Easter Island (Massin, 1996).
Also recorded from Maldive area, Ceylon, Bay of Bengal, East Indies, north Australia, Philippine, china, south Japan, South Pacific Is. and Hawaiian Is. (Clark & Rowe, 1971); Australia (Rowe & Gates, 1995).
Ecology: benthic, inshore, detritus feeder, deposit feeder. General distribution: tropical, Indo-west Pacific, central-west America, Mexico (Pacific coast), shallow water (Rowe & Gates, 1995).
In shallow water (0-4 m.) of well sheltered areas (Massin, 1996). [details]
Remark: Type species of the Subgenus: Platyperona Rowe, 1969. Holotype in Zoologisches Museum für Hamburg, Hamburg (Germany) E.2546. Type locality: Navigator Islands, Samoa (Rowe & Gates, 1995).
Rowe (1969) places H. frequentiamensis H.L. Clark, 1902 as a synonym. [details]
