Taxonomic remark In his description of Heterometra quinduplicava Carpenter, 1888, A. H. Clark (1941, p. 248) wrote: "The preceding description is based upon a magnificent specimen from the Danish Expedition to the Kei Islands station 72, which was originally described as a new species under the name of Heterometra apollo but which does not appear to differ in any essential feature from the specimens of H. quinduplicava previously known." He mentioned the name again under Locality data (p. 251) as the single "type specimen" in the Copenhagen Museum (=Zoologisk Museum København) and again on plate 34, figs. 149-151, but as the Co-type of H. apollo (Smithsonian Institution (USNM) catalogue number E3200, not listed in the Locality section). The online SI catalogue identifies E3200 as H. quinduplicava. A. H. Clark did not list the name in his synonymy of H. quinduplicava, and I have found no description of H. apollo in any of Clark's other papers. [details]
