Status Bush (1905: 248, 250) used Spirorbis corrugatus Montagu for sinistral specimens from Ireland, and pointed out that Caullery & Mesnil's dextral form with spiral lines to which they applied Montagu's name "must be distinct", creating the new species Spirorbis pseudocorrugatus for it. The Knight-Jones's 1975 review of Janua confirms this assignment, stating "Spirorbis corrugatus Montagu ( 1803) was an inadequately described sinistral species, possibly Spirorbis rupestris Gee & Knight-Jones (1962) to judge from Montagu’s ecological notes. S.corrugatus Montagu sensu Langerhans (1880) was dextral and seems to have been a species of Janua (Pillaiospira) (p. 116). The dextral S.corrugatus sensu Caullery & Mesnil and most modern authors was renamed pseudocorrugatus by Bush (1904) who realised the other name was preoccupied [their categorisation (eg Chamberlin 1919) for a misidentification wrongly using Montagu's name]" [details]

Editor's comment Probably best this name is not revived for use as firstly the concept is confused with what became Neodexiospira pseudocorrugatus.
