A 'temporary name' status is given to taxa above the family level that need further corroboration or further clarification. These names appear in the literature but are as yet not generally accepted or in use. Accepted status will follow as soon as independent studies with sufficient taxon content have appeared. [details] Axinellida were erected for sponges with axially strengthened skeletons and oviparous reproduction. These features are no longer considered markers for a monophyletic assemblage in the Systema Porifera. Families assigned to this order were distributed among three currently recognized orders, Halichondrida, Hadromerida and Poecilosclerida. The name-bearing group, genus Axinella and familiy Axinellidae are currently assigned to Halichondrida. However, recent molecular studies indicate the existence of a monophyletic group largely similar in content to Lévi's original concept (some groups excepted).
