Identification This is a misspelling (incorrect subsequent spelling) of Spongia syphonoides Lamarck, 1814 and thus it is unavailable according to ICZN art. 33.3. Since Ridley's material (as Reniera scyphonoides) differs from Lamarck's (this belongs to the genus Dactylia, cf. Topsent (1932) and Hooper & Wiedenmaye (1994), Ridley's misspelling has been used as the name for a species distinct from Spongia syphonoides (q.v.). Thishas to be rectified with with a nomen novum. [details]
