Synonymy Synonym: Livoneca ovalis (Say, 1818) according to N. Bruce, 1990. Former and widely-used spelling "Lironeca" is rejected (see Monod, 1931 Sivertsen & Holthuis, 1980). The type of Cymothoa ovalis Say, 1818 (now Livoneca) was reported as missing by Spamer (Tryonia 26:128, 1192) but was found by Gary Rosenberg of the Philadelphia Academy of Sciences in 1994 (pers. comm.) [details]
