Nomenclature Anisoceras Grube, 1856, is a junior homonym to the insect Anisoceras Hope 1840 and also the cephalopod Anisoceras Pictet, 1854. Chamberlin (1919:339) placed Anisoceras Grube, 1856 into Dorvillea Parfitt, 1866, together with Staurocephalus Grube, 1855, Prionognathus Keferstein, 1862, Stauronereis Verrill, 1900, and Teleonereis Verrill, 1900. Pettibone (1961:181) placed Anisoceras Grube into a new genus, Papillodorvillea with a different type species to that of Anisoceras. However Papillodorvillea Pettibone is regarded as a synonym of Dorvillea Parfitt (fide Jumars, 1974 & Eibye-Jacobsen & Kristensen, 1994) [details]
