Taxonomy Müller included Gisela heteracantha in Ariciaea (= Orbiniidae). Included by Hartman (1957) in a list of Orbiniidae names,...
Taxonomy Müller included Gisela heteracantha in Ariciaea (= Orbiniidae). Included by Hartman (1957) in a list of Orbiniidae names, but she states the biramous parapodia have spionid-like hooks. This appears to be incorrect as the array of spionid-like hooks in the plate are instead the adjacent figure (fig. 10, also 11) for Magelona papillicornis. Only a thick curved simple chaeta (pl.6 fig. 12) is shown for Gisela. Hartman noted the presence of two eye pairs in the original description, and indeed this would be unusual for Orbiniidae. Hartman (1959 catalogue) still included Gisela in the Orbiniidae. [details]
