The specific epithet filiformis is a Latin adjective meaning 'threadlike', and refers presumably to the thinness of the species when compared with the one that preceds it in the same publication: "These individuals [...] differ grossly from the latter [Aricidea belgicae] in being slenderer and having a smooth abdominal region [...]. Greatest width is in the prebranchial segment; here they measure about 0,46 mm across, in the branchial region about 0,33 mm" (Hartman, 1953: 39). [details]
