Status McIntosh described P. elisabethae in 1915, although briefly with no illustrations. Subsequently (1922) he illustrated the chaetae and formally synonymised it with P. haematodes (Claparède, 1864), described from Port Vendres on the French Mediterranean coast. However, according to Glasby and Hutchings (2014), after re-examination of McIntosh’s material, they believe that his specimens represent a distinct species and therefore should be removed from synonymy.
