Description As the colour pattern is important here is Delle Chiaje (1841: 95) colour description: "body rosy brindle with oval reddish spots, cerulescent down with double median row of reddish spots; head red-irid" It is difficult to interpret that description, however, Salazar-Vallejo (2018: 306) rewrites it as "Body banded as a tiger with oval reddish spots, pale grayish with double medial reddish series,
head iridescent red…" and also describes colour patterns he observed in specimens and figures them in figures 50-51. These are not fresh specimens. [details]

The species is indeterminable from the 1830 publication. The publication date of the plates is uncertain and much discussed but usually set as 1830, although dated 1822 on the title page. Subsequently in 1841 in another work a description was given and much better figures were published (Delle Chiaje, 1841: volume 3 p.95, plates volume plate 103 figures 2-5) as well as a republication of the 1830 plate (figure 24) as plate 155 [details]
