Biology: Type of larval development: direct (non planktotrophic) denoted by paucispiral protoconch. [details] Diagnosis: Shell with a moderately high spire, adults up to 1.5 to 2.2 mm high, with protoconch of 1.5 whorl and teleoconch of 2.5 to 3.25 whorls. Protoconch covered by minute granules arranged in blurry spiral bands, not appreciable under the optical microscope. Teleoconch with a vague indication of flat spiral cords, and minute spiral rows of extremely minute (ca. 0.5 µm) pores visible only under the scanning electron microscope. Outer lip definitely opisthocline, with a thin edge and thickened externally at a distance of the edge by a broad rim, smooth and not thickened inside. Shell colour whitish, some fresh shells with a very faint pattern of pale brown ochre blotches tending to merge into axial flames in the area preceding the outer lip. This species resembles in size and shape the shallow water European species Alvania punctura (Montagu, 1803) from which it differs in having a paucispiral protoconch and in lacking ribs and spiral cords on the teleoconch, among other characters.
