Type species Bailey (1969: 387) names the type species ("with S. striatus Quievreux (1963) as the type") in the abstract and summary, but not in the body of the text. As the original name of the type is evidently Paralaeospira striata Quiévreux, 1963, there has been a recombination and the correct presentation would have been as Spirorbis striatus (Quiévreux, 1963) [details]

Diagnosis Author: "Sinistral coiling; thoracic brood pouch incubation ; a fourth thoracic segment present in a more or less complete form ; fin and blade collar setae with cross-striations. The tube and operculum also show characters unique to this subgenus […]. The tube is usually translucent and extremely strong, with obvious transverse ridges. The operculum has a terminal slightly concave calcareous plate with a massive talon. The structure of the talon varies, but it usually has lateral lobes bearing knobs. The absominal setae have a characteristic 'brush' shape […] Abdominal tori are mostly absent from the convex side.
