Validity Hyatt’s name is not an available name (as it has a fourth name, ICZN art. 45.5), and elevation in rank as Van Soest has attempted is similarly invalid (ICZN art. 45.5.1). The combination Spongia solitaria is thus to be considered as authored by Van Soest (1978) (ICZN art. 45.5.1) and his specimen, ZMA Por. 3416, locality Curaçao, approximate coordinates 12°N 69°W, collected by S.J. Mertens, 1887, is the (dried) holotype. [details]
