Nomenclature Marche-Marchad (1960:877) assimilated Locard's species with M. opalina based on the actual specimens preserved at MNHN, Paris. In his 1981 publication however, he reverses this "error". However, research of the type specimens by the present editor conclude in favour of his 1960 opinion, duly adding that the drawings in Locard's publication appear more flat-sided than the actual specimens are, which lead in recent years to confusion with a species occurring of the coasts of Mauretania and Western Sahara (currently under research).
