Synonymy None of the 4 named species were designated, so name is invalid. Genus was originally a composite of Anseropoda and Asterina but by designation of Asterias membranacea Lamarck, as type speices, Asteriscus can be disposed of in the synonymy of Anseropoda Nardo, 1834 since this is a synonym of Anseropoda placenta (Pennant, 1777) [details]
