Taxonomy The genus name "Bulla" has been used by 18th century authors for a variety of bulloid shells now classified in various families of caenogastropods and cephalaspids. Later, in the 19th century and even in the 20th century, the genus "Bulla" continued to be used for species now classified in various families of cephalaspids. The restriction of Bulla to is current meaning started only in the middle of the 20th century.
The species-level taxonomy of Bulla is replete with misidentifications. The one reliable source of information is the monograph by Malaquias & Reid (2008). [details]
