Additional information Deardorff & Overstreet (1981) placed those species that mature in fish into the genus Hysterothylacium. It is now well established that members of Contracaecum do not occur as adults in fish hosts but occur principally in piscivorous birds and mammals. Those species which mature in fish require transfer to Hysterothylacium and other raphidascaridid genera [details]
