Diagnosis Medusa with 4 or 8 radial canals (exceptionally up to 16); one or two types of marginal tentacles (long and rudimentary, both with marginal bulbs); sense organs compound, comprising an ecto-endodermal ocellus and an open velar statocyst, no cirri.
Hydroid colony ‘‘Cuspidella’’-like; hydrotheca tubular, sessile or with reduced pedicel; operculum of numerous flaps demarcated or not from the rest of hydrotheca by a creaseline; gonophores as free medusae, gonotheca tubular or rounded, laterally compressed, operculate or not, with short peduncle, growing singly from hydrorhiza.
