Taxonomic remark From Maria Holynska: The name "divulsus" was originally used by Lindberg (1956) in the combination "Cyclops rubens divulsus". The Cyclops was described from Bornholm Island (Baltic Sea) in Denmark.
Lindberg used the name "rubens" as a senior synonym" for the species described by Fischer as Cyclops strenuus in 1851. Lindberg considered Jurine's (1820) taxon " Monoculus quadricornis rubens" to be conspecific with Cyclops strenuus Fischer, 1851. The reason why we cannot use Cyclops rubens sensu Lindberg is that it is a junior homonym. O. F. Müller gave a diagnosis of the genus Cyclops in 1776, and in 1785 he listed among others Cyclops rubens as a member of the genus. Cyclops rubens O. F. Müller is a calanoid, and Lindberg thought that fact could exclude it being a homonym of a cyclopid taxon. This was wrong, the name applied by Müller for a calanoid still remains a senior honomym for Cyclops rubens sensu Lindberg; therefore Cyclops rubens sensu Lindberg is an objectively invalid name, and though the name divulsus is objectively valid name we should not use in combination with Cyclops rubens.

The name "divulsus" was used in various combinations: as Cyclops rubens divulsus (Lindberg's publications); Cyclops strenuus divulsus (Dussart,1969" Les Copepodes des Eaux Continentales d 'Europe Occidentale); Cyclops abyssorum divulsus (see Einsle's 2006 Guide book to Cyclops, Dussart & Defaye, 2006); Cyclops divulsus (Wyngaards & Chinnappa, 1982).

Hołyńska & Wyngaard (2019), based on comparisons to Lindberg's original material from Bornholm I., synonymized 'Cyclops rubens divulsus Lindberg 1956 ' with Cyclops divergens Lindberg, 1936 (see the paragraph highlighted in yellow in the article attached.

So, according to Hołyńska & Wyngaard (2019) the valid name for the Cyclops from Bornholm is Cyclops divergens Lindberg, 1936, while Cyclops strenuus divulsus or Cyclops abyssorum divulsus or Cyclops divulsus are subjectively invalid names. [details]
