Etymology From the greek doie, meaning uncertain, in combination with lamprops from the family name. The name is in reference to the uncertain nature of this genus, as it is represented by a single specimen, yet that single specimen has characteristics that do not allow it to be placed within any other lampropid genus without diluting the generic diagnosis. As noted by Băcescu (1972), female pleopods within a species may vary in their state of development. [details]
