Die in der vorliegenden Abhandlung aufgeführten Polychäten wurden mit wenigen Ausnahmen von Prof. Michaelsen und Dr. Hartmeyer 1905 an der Küste Südwest-Australiens gesammelt. In diesem ersten Teil werden die erranten Polychäten behandelt und anhangsweise 2 sedentäre Formen, die aus Versehen dieser Abteilung beigelegt waren, im ganzen 105 Arten.
Die in Frage stehenden Anneliden wurden im engeren Litoralbezirk der Küste erbeutet, und sie bilden daher eine Strandfauna im eigentlichen Sinhe. Aus diesem Umstande mag es vielleicht zu erklären sein, daß viele Exemplare, abgesehen von den an sich kleinen Formen, nur von geringer Größe und offenbar junge Tiere waren , wie z. B. die Phyllodociden.
