Type designation Type species Maupasia coeca Viguier, 1886, by monotypy. Viguier (1886: 382) used the expression "nov. gen. et spec." for Maupasia coeca, but according to ICZN Code Article 68.2.1, this expression or an equivalent are solely considered to be an original designation when it designates only one of two or more nominal species originally included in a new nominal genus or subgenus. Originally Viguier included one single species in the new genus.  [details]
