Authority The unclear authorship and date of Amphicorina, usually attributed to Quatrefages during the 19th C, has been examined several times in more recent literature (eg Banse, 1957, Rouse 1994, Giangrande 1999, Yoshihara et al 2012). First use of the name was, with little description, presented as a uninomial French name "Amphicorine" (not Amphicorina) by Quatrefages (1850:29, 41), which was later used latinised by Leuckart (1854:311) as "bei Amphicorina n. gen" in a summary of Quatrefages' work and with no description. The usage by Quatrefages (1850) was italicised in the text, but the presentation style is otherwise as an informal name, and it is not said to be new, and has no species named for it. Claparède (1864:) used Quatrefages' name as subgenus Amphicorina (not Amphicorine) of Fabricia for his new sabellid Fabricia armandi [named for Quatrefages]. However, Quatrefages (1866:474) finally used his 1850 informal name Latinized as Amphicorina for three new species, placing Claparède's Fabricia (Amphicorina) armandi into a new genus, Oria. Amphicorina Claparède cannot be replaced in this manner and thus Oria becomes a junior objective synonym of Amphicorina. It is also a junior homonym to Oria Huebner, 1821 in Lepidoptera. There is no questioning by subsequent taxonomists that Amphicorina is an incorrect subsequent spelling of "Amphicorine"

More recently Yoshihara et al (2012:48) stated that neither Quatrefages (1850) nor Leuckart (1854) combined Amphicorina with any available specific name(s), and thus do not satisfy Article 12.2.5 (ICZN 1999). However, that is not strongly relevant and not the reason their usages are unavailable. They are unavailable because Quatrefages' name was clearly not latinised, and without indications it was intentionally a new genus, and Leuckart's latinised Amphicorina was an incidental occurrence which had no accompanying description to define it (Art.12.1) [details]
