Nomenclature Schulze (1895) distinguished two subspecies, laccadivense and andamanense when he described his new species Hyalonema indicum, but omitted to indicate which of the two is the nominotypical subspecies (mandatory according to ICZN art. 47). Since the first mentioned is the more complete specimen which included the holdfast (basalia), we propose here to indicate laccadivense as the nominotypical subspecies. ICZN art. 47 demands that the name is the same as that of the species, so H.i.laccadivense becomes an objective junior synonym of a subspecies to be named H.i. indicum. Since H. indicum is transferred to subgenus Coscinonema, the names of the subspecies become H. (Coscinonema) indicum indicum and H. (Coscinonema) indicum andamanense[details]
