Diagnosis Emended diagnosis by Salazar-Vallejo et al. (2007: 538): ''Synelminae with palps simple, each with a ventrolateral papilla. Three antennae. Eyes present or absent. Two pairs of tentacular cirri. Parapodia with bidentate curved notospines, neurochaetae include pectinate and denticulate capillaries and furcate chaetae.'' [details]

Diagnosis Original diagnosis by Augener (1922: 191-192): ''Sylliden-artiger Wurm, an Exogone erinnernd, mit mittlerer Segmentzahl und Nematoden-artigem Habitus. Pharynx unbewaffnet, vorstülpbar. Borsten an den in einfacher Längsreihe angeordneten Parapodien einfach; am Mittel- und Hinterkörper auch einfache Haken. Cirren u. s. w. ungegliedert. 2 Paar Buccalcirren. Fühler (Zahl derselben?). Parapodien mit Dorsal- und Ventralcirrus. 2tes Parapod (abweichend von Sphaerosyllis) mit Dorsalcirrus.''
