Diagnosis Swimming acrocirrids with more than 30 long (more than body width) chaetae per parapodium. Eyes absent. Head not retractable. With thick or thin gelatinous sheath penetrated by clavate papillae. One or more lollipop-shaped, interramal papillae projecting well beyond gelatinous sheath. Nuchal organs just posterior to palps as simple oblique, slightly raised ridges to spiral and branched structures free-standing above body wall. Four pairs of branchiae that may be modified as ellipsoid bioluminescent structures or elongate (more than half body length) with tapered distal tips.
