A new echinoid species of Hyposaleniinae has been discovered in the upper Cenomanian deposits of Port-des-Barques, in Charente-Maritime (South-West of France). The new taxon, Hyposalenia pauciperforata nov. sp., is stratigraphically younger than Hyposalenia acanthoides (Des Moulins, 1837), a common species from the different local beds of early and middle Cenomanian, also known in Paris Basin, especially in Sarthe and Orne, and present in Great Britain, where it was sometimes named « Hyposalenia pulchella (L. Agassiz 1838) ». The new species can be distinguished from H. acanthoides by its pentagonal, little perforated and smaller apical disc and also its more granular test.
