Status Long considered to be a junior synonym of Strongylocentrotus droebachiensis (see Mortensen 1943), but later re-assigned to the synonymy of Strongylocentrotus pallidus by Jensen (1974: 119). Reason for the differing statement is that Mortensen considered pallidus (and all its synonyms) as identical with droebachiensis. [details]

Authority Originally attributed to "Barn. MS." by Agassiz (1864: p. 357). Since it is Agassiz' paper that first made the name available the name takes the authority of Agassiz, 1864 (ICZN 1999, Art. 50.1). [details]
