Status Brief history on the status of Clarkiella
1916 - proposed as new genus for Cassidulus conoideus and C. hemisphericus
1920 - erroneously replaced by Cossmanaster due to supposed homonymy with Clarkella Walcott, 1908 [note spelling difference!]
1920-1953 - Cossmanaster treated as accepted genus by all authors
1953 - Cooke clarified the status of Cossmanaster and suggested Clarkiella might prove to be a synonym or subgenus of Hardouinia, but did not formally synonymize the two genera
1962 - Kier placed Clarkiella in the synonymy of Hardouinia
2000 - Smith & Jeffery treat it as subgenus of Hardouinia
2011 - Smith & Kroh treat it as synonym of Lefortia due to similarities in periproct position (which is different in the type species of Hardouinia)
