A new species of a brown and monoecious hydra, Hydra salmacidis n. sp., is described from the campus of Universidade de Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo City. The most distinctive characters are: sexually active polyps are sequential hermaphrodites, tentacles up to three times column length, simultaneous tentacle origin on buds, testes with nipples, round embryotheca with spines ranging from 20 to 60 mu-m in length and holotrichous isorhiza nematocysts smaller or almost as long as the stenoteles.Descriptors: HYDRA SALMACIDIS new species
