A new species Hydra beijingensis sp. nov. collected from Beijing is described. Body of medium size. It is dioecious. The new species is similar in some ways to Hydra daqingensis (Fan, 2000), but there are essential distinctions. The characters of the new species are: there is differentiation on body and stalk in external diameter. Two forms of holotrichous isorhiza threads: most arranged in 4-5 transverse coils, and the other extreme examples are found, in which the whole thread is wound irregularly or predominantly longitudinally. The number of developing eggs are 2-4 only. Under warmer temperature conditions (28.0-33.01[degree]C ) the new species produces testes and ovaries. Holotype [male], paratypes 28 &[integral]e&[integral]e, 19 [male][male], Capital Normal University (39[degree]90[minute]N, 116[degree]39[minute]E), 21 Oct. 1999; and Paratypes 13 &[integral]e&[integral]e, 8 [male][male], Zizhuyuan Park (39[degree] 90[minute]N, 116[degree]39[minute]E), 29 May 2002, Beijing City, collected by FAN Xue-Ming. The type specimen is deposited in the Laboratory of Invertebrate Zoology in the Department of Biology in College of Life and Environment Science in Harbin Normal University.
