Diagnosis Hydroid in reshwater, of small size (100-600 µ); solitary but sometimes bi- or tripolar; 2 irregular whorls of tentacles at oral end, each tentacle consisting of a process of a single ectodermal cell (tentaculocyte) scattered with a few nematocysts; hydranth reproducing only asexually, forming new polyps of their own type or frustules. Sexual reproduction unknown. [details]
