Taxonomic remark Böhm (1883) reported the presence of this species in Lake Tanganyika and proposed the specific epithet Tanganjicae for it, however, without providing a genus name. This is thus not a valid introduction of the species name. Günther (1893) then proposed a new genus and validly described the species, giving credit to Böhm for the name. [details]

Spelling The original and correct spelling is Limnocnida tanganjicae, not Limnocnida tanganyicae as introduced by Leloup (1951) [details]Taxonomic remark Böhm (1883) reported the presence of this species in Lake Tanganyika and proposed the specific epithet Tanganjicae for it, however, without providing a genus name. This is thus not a valid introduction of the species name. Günther (1893) then proposed a new genus and validly described the species, giving credit to Böhm for the name. [details]
