The MERMAID project (EU-FP7 project, movie about the project) will develop concepts for the next generation of offshore platforms which can be used for multiple purposes. The project does not envisage building new platforms, but will theoretically examine new concepts, such as combining structures for energy extraction, aquaculture and platform related transport.

In four different study sites with specific environmental conditions, the conceptual multi-use offshore platforms will be compared and the strengths and weaknesses will be assessed. The project will address economical, technical, environmental, as well as site-specific challenges. It is envisaged that the project outcomes will lead to an optimized project development of multi-use offshore platforms, best technical practices, a reduction of the environmental impact of these platforms and an increased feasibility.

This Portal, embedded in the Coastal and Marine Wiki, will capture the output of the MERMAID project and is updated by its project partners.
